As I was stumbling around the interwebs last night, I came across an intriguing new band: Francis and the Lights. Led by awesomely named frontman Francis Farewell Starlite, these guys are extremely compelling. I encourage you to pre-order the new album as I’ve done.
I’m planning to write a more involved review for Listen In over the weekend (in which I’ll cover their very unique approach to sidestepping the influence of The Man), but for now I’ll just say that they sound like a 21st-century take on Prince/Michael Jackson/I don’t know what. This is baby-makin’ music, to be included in a forthcoming mixtape on that theme by yours truly. My early favs include “A Modern Promise” and “Strawberries” off the new album.
